In 1874 Christopher Columbus Smith, the creator of Chris-Craft, built his first skiff at age 13. He was in Algonac, a small town in Michigan. Since then, Chris-Craft has been building timeless luxury boats and yachts in a range of sizes that have captivated boat lovers from around the world with their exceptional style and performance. The company is now based in Sarasota, Florida, where the focus is still on preserving the beauty and unparalleled craftsmanship that is worthy of the legendary Chris-Craft brand. Chris-Craft has stood the test of time and shown their strong American pride. In 1941, during World War 2, Chris-Craft turned its focus to helping the country. It began building patrol boats, utility launches, and rescue vessels for the United States Navy and Army. By 1945, they had built 12,000 military vessels. Chris-Craft even produced the landing boats that transported the troops to the beach on D-day.

The current lineup of boat models reflects a modern version of the timeless boats.
